Working in the studio can be fun, specially when your client works with hair. This photo was taken for a competition for WellaHairUS. This project would run for eight days of shooting entries for the national competition.

The time I spent on the mesa was magical. This was the view from the front of our "barndominium". I am so thankful for being able to live in this majestic place nestled in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. It's funny that I met my friend Roger in the Florida Keys working on location as photo assistants. As luck would have it, he needed a renter and I jumped on the chance. Roughly twenty years later, we are still the greatest of friends. Thank you Roger for the life long memories.

Somewhere between Dallas Divide and Montrose... off County Road Z60 was a trail that we would hike when I lived outside of Telluride. I just loved wondering though the aspens. It was always very hard for me to take photographs when I lived there because I was so in the moment. I would bring along a point-n-shoot occasionally to grab some images because the landscape was ever changing. I can't wait to get back and see what things look like after 20 years. I'm glad to have lived in the moment, it only makes you appreciate where you been.

If you hung out in Deep Ellum in the late '90's & early 2000's you knew the ACE parking lot on Elm Street between Crowds & Good Latimer. Always looking forward to seeing the new murals weekly, I just loved that this place accepted graffiti artists and allowed them to express themselves freely. I have other images from this time, but this quote just seems to sum up the attitude of the time. Twenty years later, graffiti is part of mainstream advertising. To borrow from a saying in the tattoo industry about saying "loyal to the coil", I like to adapt a new saying for graffiti artists, "I stand with the CAN"

So sometimes artists really want to project a "feel" when they perform. This was the case this evening at the AAC in Dallas. So when the artist doesn't want to be in the spotlight, you get creative and push the limits to create an image that shows the "feeling" of the evening.

In my early twenties I was really into Sting's "Nothing Like The Sun", my second favorite track next to his cover of "Little Wing", was "Sister Moon". Anyone who knows me well, knows that the night time is my time. So this song will always hold a special place in my heart, this is just a visual that reminds me of the song.

So I can't remember when, but i've always loved Tom Petty's music. I was always so excited when I had the opportunity to cover any of his shows. I can't think of a time when he didn't have a hit on the radio. I have lots of favorite bands, but when I want to pull a classic from my vinyl collection and kick up my feet and relax, you better believe my reaching for "Hard Promises" and anticipating "A Woman In Love" and still wonder how that didn't make the cut for his greatest hits collection.

Many moons ago there was this unique building on E. Belknap between Sylvannia and Riverside. It always intrigued me whenever I drove by it. I finally stopped to see what it housed, and to my surprise it was a used furniture store that was comprised of three buildings. As the years passed they went out of business and luckily before it was demoed I took the time to photograph it's weathered beauty.

This the view that I miss the most. Usually before doors open, the venue is bussing with final preparations before the show. I'll run the the pit to see if there are any special instructions or obstacles the rest of the media photographers need to be aware of prior to the show. It's really the only point in time when the pit is at peace. For the next few hours this space is where the images are captured, always hoping to get that "money" shot. Much of the professional work I do takes place in the evening, concerts large events and on those special occasions I get to go to some remote places. On this particular evening I was covering an event for Cystic Fibrosis in Mingus, Texas. In between the artists performing I had a bit of solitude and noticed the beautiful scene, unfortunately I did not have a tripod for the long exposure so I improvised and used my camera bag to steady my camera. I think it turned out nicely considering the circumstances.

Yes, at the turn of the century I was still using this stock and shooting a Pentax 645 system. However, the image you are currently viewing is an iPhone shot of the original transparency. Sometimes lo-tech is the easiest way to get to old school. BTW, this was 2002 :)

Actually, the fishing pier in Destin, FL, on the super rare occasion when no work was involved and this trip was strictly for relaxation. Jamie & I joined my good friend Jason and his family for some sun and sand. Nightly we would go crabbing on the beach and take in the action on the fishing pier. Hearing the waves at night is so peaceful, and this image takes me back instantly.

Las Vegas has always been a place I love to spend time. I remember the excitement I felt as a kid in the 70's the first time I visited. As a teen in the 80's, it was a wonderland full of opportunity. As an adult, I get to travel there for work and pleasure and I'm always drawn to the nostalgia of old Vegas. I can't wait to get back!

We would like to personally thank Jeff, CJ and MacKenzie for there professional and personal support over the years. We are truly honored to represent a GREAT company and wonderful family at Fort Worth Camera. We're looking forward to another great year, see you from inside the PIT!
ABOUT THE PHOTO:One of the most serious hazards of working in the pit is being "taken out" by a crowd surfer coming over the barricades. It's always a good thing to be aware of your surroundings and to have a pair of eyes in the back of your head (in this case, our awesome security peeps!). -roman & jamie

Sometimes you go to a show and it's a once in a lifetime experience. As long as I can remember, I've always loved going to see live music. My first show was Chuck Berry at the age of 10 and since then the passion has never stopped. So when this opportunity took place in front of my lens, it transported me to being the "fan" and renewed my love of attending live shows.
It's always a feel good time when I see bands interacting with fans and the crowd. The energy in the arena was electric, and to say this was a show of a lifetime, well I'm sure this story will be told over and over again. Here's to to an AWESOME stage dive via our friends, GREENDAY.

There's really nothing left to be said, He was a giant from the beginning. It was as if the "God of Thunder" blessed him, because when a special thanks is given to Gene Simmons in their liner notes on the their debut album, the keys to the kingdom have been handed over. They proved in '77 that they weren't just another band off the Sunset Strip.
Today is truly a sad day for rock n' roll - you will be missed Eddie - \m/
]]>As a kid, this meant being armed with a tennis racket, a highly imaginative mind and I was Angus Young running the stage.... \m/
Picking up from our last entry, when I was young, I can remember my cousin Mike and I pretending to "rock out" to Let There Be Rock and Whole Lotta Rosie. Little did I know then, that I would get paid to photograph the man himself. My life shooting concerts for the American Airlines Center is nothing short of a dream. Having the opportunity to photograph all my musical heroes is priceless. So, for the boys from down under, WE SALUTE YOU!
If memory serves me correctly, these shots are from one of the last shows of the Rock or Bust World Tour, just before Brian Johnson left the tour due to hearing problems.

So I thought it would be fitting to feature a photo of a band that lead me on this path of being a professional concert photographer. The hottest band in the land... KISS!
As a kid, I would dream of being in the band KISS, and as an adult, photographing them from the pit is the closest thing to that reality. To say that these guys were my idols would be an understatement. I've carried around, for a lifetime, a crate of vinyl that housed my KISS collection from my childhood. Soooo every time I have had the chance to photograph them, it is an incredible honor for me.
This particular shot was taken during a salute to our Service men & women. To be able to capture this image of the band, is special to me because it's not the typical image you are used to seeing of the band.
When I was a kid, I never thought being a concert photographer was a job or a career. All I knew then was that I wanted to be around music. I am so grateful to do this as a profession and to be involved with musicians and all the awesome people involved in the music industry. So as the band salutes the troops, I, salute you!

Game one of the Stanley Cup Finals - Life in the Bubble...
It is a far different world we live in since we were in the finals of the Stanley Cup two decades ago. With the arena at only 25% capacity, we were a small crowd compared to what is normal, but there was no shortage of enthusiasm and Stars pride.
Social distancing and face coverings are now apart of our everyday lives and even though there will not be a home ice advantage, we are overjoyed to be back in the FINALS!
GO STARS!
